NSW Future Transport Strategy
Long-term future of rail service for Birrong and Yagoona is uncertain as Transport for NSW has declined to confirm if the NSW Future Transport Strategy (2056) of the Norwest/Parramatta to Bankstown to Kogarah/Miranda line includes Birrong and/or Yagoona.
Transport Minister Jo Haylen issued a statement (May 2024) in support of the T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line (following the opening of Sydney Metro Southwest in 2025). However a Transport for NSW document (June 2024) released by the Department of Planning shows planning to remove the T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line (replaced with the Norwest to Miranda line).

Below options have been proposed by Transport for NSW, Members of Parliament, Local Councils, Transport Advocates, Community Members for future rail services at the existing Birrong Station and Yagoona Station.
This survey is being undertaken as Transport for NSW is planning for the NSW Future Transport Strategy and Inner Southwest rail network without community consultation. Results of will be shared in a submission to local Councils, Members of Parliament, and Transport for NSW.
This survey includes the restored T3 Liverpool and Inner West Line (former T2 City Circle to Liverpool via Regents Park) in the 2024 timetable; and does not preclude an extension of Metro from Bankstown to Liverpool via Bankstown Airport/Moorebank, and does not preclude an underground Bankstown Metro Station (for future Metro Southwest to Liverpool or Norwest/Parramatta to Kogarah via Bankstown).
